Republic of Ireland fans have been having their say on the possibility of John O'Shea getting the manager's job on a full-time basis.

The former Manchester United defender took charge of Ireland's two recent friendlies, a 0-0 draw with Belgium on Saturday and 1-0 defat to Switzerland on Tuesday, both of which took place at the Aviva Stadium.

Speaking after the loss to Switzerland, O'Shea insisted that he is “more than ready” for management.

O’Shea wants to be considered for the vacancy and said: “I think that’s something that we will obviously discuss later on.

“For me the full focus was on the two games, to enjoy the moment in terms of learning from it and really understand it.

“I wanted to learn about myself in terms of how I cope with the situation with the games, and learn if I want to do it more.”

Pushed on being a manager in his next role, rather than a coach, O’Shea said: “Look, the emphatic answer from me would be, yes. But where that is, let’s wait and see.

“My instinct would be that I’m more than ready and capable to be a manager.

“Let’s wait and see. I can only speak for how much myself and the staff have enjoyed working with the players.”

O’Shea continued: “These two games have only given me a taste for more, whether that’s with Ireland or club football.

“I’ve loved every minute of it and I’ve been fully engrossed in it, but I’m just annoyed we didn’t get a win in either of the two games.”

A large number of supporters took to social media after Tuesday's game to have their say on if O'Shea should get the job.

Of those in support of him getting the role, one wrote: "John O’Shea is one of the most decorated players. Captained Ireland and was involved with underage. Give him the job."

Another person said: "Give the man the job. Where is our Irish loyalty."

Someone else commented: "Hope John O'Shea gets given the chance to manage #Ireland on a permanent basis."

But not everyone is in favour of the idea, with one fan saying: "John O’Shea’s a great lad but that was poor from Ireland tonight. No goals again - no real intent in that performance."

Another posted: "That should put the John O'Shea stuff to bed. Felt there was a real overreaction to the 0-0 against Belgium's b-team."

One other person wrote: "Makes his case against a second string Belgian side draw and lose to Switzerland. He's not the man."
