Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni was 'happy' with Alejandro Garnacho's full debut for his nation and he backed him to have a bright future on the international stage.

Garnacho was given his Manchester United debut by Ralf Rangnick, but his development has gone to another level with Erik ten Hag in charge and he's now a regular starter.

The 19-year-old has contributed seven goals and four assists in all competitions for United and his relocation to the right wing since the festive period has gone seamlessly. Garnacho looks comfortable playing on the right but he moved back to his natural position for Argentina.

Garnacho was given his full debut for Argentina in a friendly against Costa Rica on Tuesday and he started on the left, next to Julian Alvarez and Angel Di Maria in attack.

The youngster was given just over 70 minutes before being substituted and, speaking after the game, Argentina boss Scaloni told TYC Sports: “We are satisfied with the tour, with how the games went. In the end, it was seen that there is no easy opponent and that everyone makes things difficult.

“In the second game, it helped us a lot, I saw a very mature team because we found ourselves in difficulty, with the game down, and the team played a very good 25 minutes in the second half.

“I am happy about that, we are going to find many games like that and it helps us. I’m happy for Walter [Benitez]. He played a good game, the truth is that the game was not easy and we are happy.

“The same as Garnacho and Carboni. They are guys who can contribute to us and we will see in the future if they will be with us.

“But I’m happy, it’s not easy to play with this shirt or with these rivals who make it difficult for you. We’re ok.”

Garnacho hoped to make Argentina's squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but was left out. His nation subsequently won that tournament against France on penalties.
