Wayne Rooney is the latest - and biggest - signing for popular EAFC Pro Clubs YouTube team Girth N' Turf FC.

The Manchester United legend was announced as a shock addition to the team on Sunday (April 14) after a new signing to the Pro Clubs side was teased earlier on in the day by co-founder Yung Filly.

The team, which features YouTubers such as AngryGinge, PieFace and iShowSpeed, ventured into the sporting world last month when they signed darts sensation Luke Littler.

Fans were left gobsmacked by the latest addition to the Pro Clubs team that has grown exponentially in popularity since forming last month. One X user wrote in response to the Rooney's signing: "THE LEVEL IS CRAZY" while another added: "Literally. EA have to take pro clubs seriously next year".

However, a third was doubtful regarding the Manchester United legend's participation on EAFC 24 as they suggested: "Hahahah more like his sons playing and he’s gona sit on the mic for one game". Filly told sceptical fans that the signing is in fact real as he wrote: "Promise you this isn’t a prank we’re in a group chat with Wayne Rooney now… he’s buzzing".

Rooney, 38, had been in the news prior to his Girth N' Turf signing as he revealed he'd been unable to make his Match of the Day debut on Saturday (April 13) after suffering a "painful back injury". The Englishman took to X as he wrote: "Gutted not to be making my debut on the iconic @BBCMOTD show tonight, it's something I have wanted to do since I was little.

"Unfortunately I have sustained a painful back injury during a holiday with my family but I look forward to being part of the team in the near future. Good luck to @GaryLineker and the guys for tonight's show and see you soon."
