Ineos are finally bring a proper football organisation to Manchester United – something the Glazers should have done years ago.

United fans should be used to seeing some of the top operators in the game taking on key roles at Old Trafford.

United’s stature as one of the biggest clubs should have brought the very best directors and recruitment staff to the club.

Instead, the Glazers continuously failed to provide United with the appointments and structure to succeed on and off the pitch.

Ineos are now trying to change that and are focusing on bringing in some of the best around.

Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox are the top targets for Ineos with the pair lined up to become sporting director and technical director respectively.

Omar Berrada is already on board as United’s next CEO and we have also seen rumours surrounding Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman becoming head of recruitment.

Kyle Macaulay could snub Manchester United

Another name linked in recent times if Kyle Macaulay.

The Chelsea scout was linked with a move to United in February as reports suggested that Ashworth wanted him at Old Trafford.

Ashworth and Macaulay worked together at Brighton and Hove Albion and a reunion was thought to be in mind.

However, The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports that Macaulay may actually snub a move to United.

It’s suggested that Macaulay may only be tempted to quit Chelsea for United if Graham Potter replaces Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman’s future is far from secure right now and one of the man names linked if Ineos decide to make a change is Potter.

Some won’t exactly be enthused by that idea but Ineos may be bold and believe in Potter over Ten Hag despite his Chelsea struggles.

Potter has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge last year but a move to United doesn’t look a sure thing, so maybe a move for Macaulay won’t materialise after all.

Macaulay and Graham Potter connection

Ashworth’s connection to Macaulay comes from their Brighton days and that link may still give United a chance of a deal.

Macaulay’s career has been founded on working with Potter though and that’s why he is the key to a move.

Macaulay joined Swedish outfit Ostersund as a performance analyst under Potter before following him to Swansea City in 2018.

When Potter headed to Brighton just a year later, Macaulay followed him – and did the same again with a 2022 move to Chelsea.

It’s clear that the pair have a great working relationship together and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them reunite again down the line.

Whether that is with United remains to be seen but Macaulay may focus on working with Potter again over Ashworth.
