Leeds United: Mark Goldbridge reacts as Archie Gray transfer mooted at Manchester United

Mark Goldbridge has told Manchester United fans to forget about the possibility of bringing Leeds United star Archie Gray to Old Trafford this summer.

The talkSPORT host and Red Devils fan insisted that the rivalry between the two clubs is “very likely” to be a barrier in the way of the move given Gray’s long-running history at Leeds.

However, he insisted the youngster would “definitely” be a player they were looking at ahead of a possible transfer deal this summer among plenty of others.

Taking to X on 17 April, Goldbridge wrote: “Forget Archie Gray. Fantastic talent but United scout hundreds of players so he’ll definitely be a player of interest.

“But that Leeds connection is very likely to be an insurmountable barrier. If you know the rivalry they have for us that is.”

Gray had previously been linked with a switch to Old Trafford in January when it was suggested that the club’s refusal to sell the 18-year-old could change if they are not promoted from the Championship at the end of this season.

However, given the long-standing history Gray and his family have with Leeds, a move to Manchester United would likely provide more issues than it would be worth given the state of that club in recent years.

Having signed a new contract to keep him at Elland Road, and with promotion still very much on the cards this season, it is difficult to imagine that Leeds would entertain any bids for Gray – let alone one from their rivals.

With the likes of Bayern Munich also credited with an interest in the midfielder, Don Goodman told MOT Leeds News that Gray could do better than moving to Manchester as he urged him to remain at Elland Road for the foreseeable future.

In other Leeds United news, Crysencio Summerville sent a new message to Gray.
