Leeds United: Manchester United staff eye Archie Gray transfer amid new Kobbie Mainoo update

Manchester United continue to hold a long-standing interest in Leeds United gem Archie Gray ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Finley King.

The journalist reported via his X account AcademyScoop, followed by David Ornstein (17 April) that United remain interested in the Leeds teenager as staff view him as a complimentary partner for Kobbie Mainoo.

However, the 18-year-old’s family ties at Elland Road could make it hard to agree personal terms with Erik ten Hag’s side at Old Trafford because of the rivalry between the two clubs historically.

Writing on X, King said: “Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Leeds’ Archie Gray – staff at United consider him a complimentary profile to partner Kobbie Mainoo.

“Were United to pursue the young midfielder, personal terms could prove troubling due to the player’s close family ties to Leeds.”

King is a specialist when it comes to news surrounding Manchester United and exclusively reported that Shea Lacey had signed a professional contract at Old Trafford [14 April], before it was announced by the Red Devils

Leeds United supporters will be desperate to see Gray remain at Elland Road beyond the end of the season, but they will be even more desperate to not see the 18-year-old lining up at Old Trafford next term.

Most fans appreciate that there will be interest from some of Europe’s biggest teams this term, whether that be Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, but they will hope United’s interest is little more than paper talk.

Gray’s ties with Elland Road will surely come into play when the teenager comes to make a decision on his future this summer. It’s hard to imagine his friends and family around him will be urging him to make the move to Old Trafford.

Hopefully, the Whites will be able to book their place in the Premier League this term and end the speculation around Gray’s long-term future. It will be much easier to keep him at Elland Road if Leeds are playing top-flight football.
