Manchester United’s ‘Wembley’ themed social media post shortly after Manchester City’s Champions League exit has left fans in stitches.
Pep Guardiola’s side saw their hopes of achieving a historic ‘double Treble’ go up in smoke after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid.
The La Liga side edged the contest 4-3 on spot kicks after the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate at the Etihad Stadium.
The defeat means City will miss a golden opportunity to defend the trophy on home soil in the final at Wembley on June 1.
The final whistle coincided with neighbours Manchester United taking to social media site, X to look ahead to their next match – coincidentally, the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry at Wembley on Sunday.
The post contained the caption: “Wembley is calling,” and a phone emoji alongside details of Sunday’s kick-off time at the location of this year’s Champions League showpiece.

United fans were quick to see the relevance of the timing and gave their props to the club’s social media team in a seemingly accidental act of trolling.
One fan wrote: “Good timing admin.”
Another replied to the post with: “The timing is goated.”
A third added: “Right after they’ve been eliminated.”

Another wote: “Zero shame, I love it.”
While a fifth fan joked: “Admin with that late winner, bullet header.”
Manchester United can book their place in next month’s FA Cup final but must first overcome surprise package Coventry.
Erik ten Hag’s side could set up a repeat of last year’s final defeat to Manchester City with a win over the Championship side
City boss Pep Guardiola faces the unenviable task of picking up his dejected side ahead of their Wembley semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday.
Guardiola’s side can still wrap up a domestic double in the closing stages of the season should they win their remaining six league games and repeat last year’s FA Cup success.
