Manchester United defender Brandon Williams will stand trial next year after pleading not guilty to two driving charges.

The full back, who has been spending this season on loan at Ipswich Town, is accused of dangerous driving in his Audi A3 S Line on the A34 dual carriageway near Wilmslow bypass in Cheshire in August 2023 in addition to driving without insurance.

Williams, dressed in a dark suit and white shirt as he arrived at court on Friday, only spoke to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea during a hearing at Chester Crown Court.

Judge Simon Berkson pencilled in a trial start date of March 17 next year. It is expected to last three days. Williams has been granted unconditional bail.

In an earlier statement Cheshire Police said: "At around 6.20pm on Sunday, August 20 2023 police were called to reports of a collision on the A34, Wilmslow, near to Total Fitness.

"Officers attended the scene and found the collision involved a grey Audi and a Ford Fiesta. The driver of the Audi was arrested at the scene and later released under investigation. Brandon Williams, 23, of Anton Walk, Manchester, was later charged with dangerous driving and driving without insurance."

The 23-year-old earns £65,000-a-week and has not played for Ipswich since last December, with Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna confirming in February that he was spending time back at United to recover from an unspecified injury.

Williams began the campaign as first choice for Championship title-chasers Ipswich but has also suffered from illness. He is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of June.
