Manchester United have confirmed Jason Wilcox as their new technical director and their latest addition to the senior management staff.

The former Southampton executive, 53, began work immediately after the news last week that John Murtough had left his position as director of football after 11 years at United.

Wilcox, who was part of the Blackburn Rovers side that won the Premier League in 1994-95 and won three caps for England, only joined Southampton last summer. Before then, he spent 11 years at Manchester City in various different roles with junior squads, including as academy director for his final six years at the club, when he oversaw the development of youth talent such as Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer.
