The brutal dig resulted in the sold-out crowd bursting into laughter, while Rooney wore a smile on his face despite McIntyre's verbal joust. The ex-footballer has had experience in the WWE sphere, having attended an event at the Manchester Arena back in 2015.
Wade Barrett began mouthing off at Rooney, who was sat in the front row with his son, with the Preston native saying: "In this ring are two men who can be easily be described as championship material. Which is, of course, is more than can be said of Wayne Rooney and Manchester United."
After confronting the then-United star, Rooney reached over the barrier and smacked him in the face, dramatically knocking Barrett down to the ground. While a venture into professional wrestling has never been talked about for the former Birmingham boss, he recently revealed the potential of boxing with Misfits.
