Mark Clattenburg has been told by Gary Neville to RESIGN from his role as a referee analyst in light of their astonishing statement on Sunday.

The Football Association has announced it's investigating a statement published on X by the club hitting out at the officiating during their defeat at Everton as it calls into question the integrity of an official.

In the statement, Forest accused the PGMOL of deploying a Luton Town fan in the VAR for their relegation six-pointer at Goodison Park on Sunday, which finished 2-0 to the Toffees.

It read: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Forest had a case to feel aggrieved just before half-time when they were denied a penalty despite the ball striking the outstretched arm of Ashley Young in the Everton box.

Meanwhile, in separate incidents Young was spared punishment for clipping Gio Reyna inside the Everton box in the first half as well as for colliding with Callum Hudson-Odoi inside the Everton box.

But Neville is furious with the way the two-time European champions have responded to their setbacks, labelling it a 'scandal'.

The Manchester United legend also believes former Premier League referee Clattenburg, who was hired as the club's referee analyst in February, should distance himself from the statement by resigning from the post.

"It's like a mafia gang statement, honestly... what the hell are they playing at?" Neville told Sky Sports.

"I think anybody and everybody would have some sympathy for Nottingham Forest over some of the decisions they've been given this season but they've grabbed defeat from victory in the way that they've handled it.

"It's like a petulant child, it's embarrassing. Some of the things they're saying, the inferring of cheating because there's an official in VAR who's a Luton fan, is a scandal and they will pay for that.

"They will regret that as a football club in terms of their history and how they present themselves. They've done it very well over a long period of time, they will regret that statement.

"The last line, the 'explore options'. I was very critical of Liverpool earlier this season after the Tottenham game - clubs have got to stop saying that. They've got to stop saying that.

"Sue? Replay the game? Take points back? What are the options? Your options are you can whinge a little bit if you want, you can be upset but you haven't got any options, this is a sporting situation... unless we're actually going to class referees and officials as cheats, which we're not. They're not.

"Get rid of that 'explore all options'. Nottingham Forest today have let themselves down badly in the midst of a lot of bad decisions going against them."

"Mark Clattenburg must resign tonight [Sunday]," Neville added. "He must resign from his job at Nottingham Forest.

"Because if he sees those words go out that question the integrity and essentially call a VAR official a cheat because he supports a certain club then he's supporting what's being said.

"He'd basically lose all credibility I think with referees in the game.

"He should stand down tonight and distance himself from that statement in my opinion."

Following the incidents, Young incredibly smirked when asked about the three calls that went in his and Everton's favour.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace appeared to poke fun at Forest following their 5-2 win over London rivals West Ham.
