Sir Jim Ratcliffe is facing increased calls to axe Erik ten Hag after Manchester United's underwhelming FA Cup semi-final victory.

The Dutchman's future remains unclear as he struggles to find consistent results or performances at Old Trafford - and the club threatened to hit an all-time low before eventually beating Coventry City. United relinquished a 3-0 lead and had to play extra time with the Championship side.

Coventry had a late winner ruled out by VAR before the Red Devils eventually made the final after a penalty shootout. Fans though were left underwhelmed by the team's collapse as they, not for the first time this season, produced a lacklustre showing.

Ten Hag has copped major criticism as a result. He gave plenty of hope in his debut season, winning a trophy, but now looks to have lost the faith of the majority of the supporter base. Many believe the time is up for the former Ajax boss with Ratcliffe, who was at Wembley, seeking to make changes.

One fan said: "I am glad that Ratcliffe was there to see it if he continues with Ten Hag after that would be shocking." Another claimed: "Both Glazer and Ratcliffe at the game… go downstairs… sack Ten Hag now." A third fan suggested: "Ratcliffe and Man United need to pull a Tottenham on Ten Hag. Sack him before that final."

Ten Hag looks like he'll miss out on the top four with United someway off Aston Villa, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot. The FA Cup is his last hope of landing silverware and potentially salvaging what has been a difficult season.

The Dutchman though admits a victory at Wembley in the final wouldn't make the year a success. He said: "I want to win it. I'm sure we have a good chance to win this final, although we play the best team in the world. We do have a chance though. We showed that this season. This season has had many ups but also many downs. Winning the FA Cup doesn't make it successful, we want to win more."

Ratcliffe has taken control of the club's football operations and has begun making an impact. He's already landed himself a new CEO and is eyeing Dan Ashworth as his next sporting director.

Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports: "I think that result today has just cost a Manchester United manager his job. I don't see how Erik ten Hag stays. It's just performance after performance. I would imagine that is probably the most embarrassing dressing room of a team that has just won a big game.

"The players won't know whether to celebrate, they are probably all sat there looking at each other. What is it about Ten Hag that makes you think he's going to take Manchester United forward next season? I just don't see it."
