Erik ten Hag may not be long for Old Trafford after squeaking past Coventry City in the FA Cup.

That's the suggestion made by Jamie Carragher, who criticised Manchester United for their performance in Sunday's semi-final clash. The Red Devils were three goals to the good before conceding three times against Championship opposition and only just earning a spot in the final via penalties.

Despite coming out on the winning end to set up another FA Cup decider against Manchester City, Carragher was anything but convinced by United. And it's his belief Ten Hag must be the one saddled with the blame.

"I think that result has just cost Erik ten Hag his job," said the former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports. "I don’t see how he stays, I really don’t.

"It’s just poor performance after poor performance. That dressing room is probably the most embarrassed dressing room from a team that has just won a big game.

"‘You can’t even celebrate that win. Maybe that can somehow win the final but I just don’t see any progress. This is somebody’s job we’re talking about but I just don’t see how they [the owners] can look at the situation and be positive about it. I don’t see it."

United were fortunate to avoid being knocked out of the FA Cup in extra time after Victor Torp found the back of the net in the 121st minute. The goal was ruled out for an agonisingly close offside call before Coventry lost their nerve in the shootout.

New minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already made major changes to United's make-up at boardroom level since arriving at Old Trafford in the new year. However, arguably his most important personnel decision to date will be whether or not to cut ties with Ten Hag in his first summer in charge of the club.
