Manchester United advance to the FA Cup Final. Although at times it didn’t look likely.

When Coventry had the ball in the back of the net in the 120th minute to make it 4-3, it really did look like Manchester United‘s season had come to an abrupt end.

But then VAR was United’s saviour, which sent the match into a tense penalty shootout. Rasmus Hojlund eventually dispatched the winner.

In the first 70 minutes at least, Manchester United dominated proceedings – and there were definitely some stand-out performers.

Manchester United’s best performers vs Coventry

First off, the Man of the Match was club captain Bruno Fernandes – who once again dragged Manchester United over the finish line.

The Portuguese Magnifico is genuinely one of the most impressive players in the world in regard to durability. He just doesn’t get injured and never stops running.

Harry Maguire was also good. Despite playing through an injury, the England international was commanding at the back and dispatched his header beautifully.

And finally, as he has done so many times this season, Diogo Dalot shows his class. The full-back barely put a foot wrong and proved once again just how much his defensive capabilities have matured over the 23/24 campaign.

Club legend David de Gea was particularly fond of Dalot’s performance.

Dalot took to Instagram after the game to send a message to Manchester United fans. It read:

‘We are in the @emiratesfacup final. A hard-fought qualification. Honour to Coventry and their fans. This is what cup matches and the FA Cup are all about. A massive thank you to the United fans for your constant support 🙏 Let’s give our all in this season ending.’

His former teammate in De Gea was one of the first to comment on this, replying with the word ‘beast’ with a muscle emoji. Jonny Evans also showed some Dalot appreciation.

Dalot and his Manchester United first-team squad now have a cup final repeat to look forward to at the end of May. Can they go one further this year and bring home some silverware?
