Alan Shearer has claimed Manchester United have already decided when they'll sack Erik ten Hag.

United made their way to the FA Cup final over the weekend, despite throwing away a three-goal lead against Coventry City at Wembley. The Sky Blues had the chance to win the game, but Victor Torp's strike was chalked after VAR intervened.

The Red Devils will now face Manchester City in the FA Cup final – but even a win against their bitter rivals might not save Ten Hag his job, according to Shearer. Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer gave his opinion on Ten Hag's future.

"I think the future of the Manchester United manager is already determined," the ex-Newcastle striker told Gary Lineker and Micah Richards. "Even if they win the FA Cup I think he's gone.

"I don't think it matters whether they win the FA Cup for his future. That may be sad, that may be wrong but I just get the feeling that winning the FA Cup is not going to be enough for him.

Alan Shearer thinks Erik ten Hag's days are numbers

"When you look at the players, when you look at the attitude, where they are in the league and all those things: Where they want to be, where they want to go, in a quick time I think he's already gone."

United have struggled under Ten Hag this season, and they are currently 7th in the Premier League. Ten Hag's future has been up in the air since INEOS' takeover with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and the Red Devils have been linked with England boss Gareth Southgate.

Bruno Fernandes defended Ten Hag after the full-time whistle: “That doesn’t have to affect anyone because we have to focus on everything we have this season. We still have chances to get in European positions in the league, we have to finish as high as possible, that’s the main thing, and then we have an FA Cup final to play.

“So no one has to be worried because it’s not our job to be worried with these things that come from the outside or from the inside or whatever because we have the owners who take care of that."
