Fans couldn’t resist making the same joke after it emerged Manchester United and Disney are in talks over a documentary.

Disney, who are behind the successful Welcome to Wrexham series, are in discussions with United about making documentaries focused on the club’s era of success under Sir Alex Ferguson, reports The Athletic.

The project, if given the green light, would include extensive interview time with Ferguson, 82, plus the likes of Bryan Robson and Peter Schmeichel. United would also open the vault on archive footage from the Scot’s success-filled 26-year reign.

However, amid the club’s continued struggles on the pitch – United haven’t won the Premier League crown since Ferguson stepped down in 2013 – fans are not relishing the prospect of another documentary harking back to United’s glory days.

“We are now officially a Mickey Mouse club. A club harking back to their past glory days,” moaned one. Another said: “A true Mickey Mouse club, I guess.”

Manchester United could be the subject a new documentary

A resigned third added: “This is what we used to mock Liverpool for. I never thought I would see this day.” A fourth blasted: “It's embarrassing. The Glazers, [Ed] Woodward [former executive vice-chairman], [Richard] Arnold [ex-CEO], [John] Murtough [former football director] have all destroyed the club.”

Another asked: “Do we really need any more documentaries about Fergie’s United??” A sixth quipped: “Will it be on the history channel?”

Sir Alex Ferguson would feature heavily in the documentary

A sarcastic seventh said: “Such a little-known story. Great to see it getting headlines finally.” Another joked: “There’ll be a TV rights issue to overcome first, All Our Yesterdays.”

The timing of the news isn’t ideal given United’s embarrassing performance in their FA Cup semi-final against Championship Coventry, who were only denied a place in the final by the tightest of VAR calls at the end of extra-time with the score at 3-3. The Red Devils scraped through on penalties, but could barely bring themselves to celebrate.
