Brentford star Neal Maupay has taken aim at Manchester United forward Antony over his celebrations at Wembley.

After United reached the FA Cup final with a 4-2 win on penalties over Championship side Coventry, having blown a 3-0 lead, Antony celebrated Rasmus Hojlund's winning spot kick by cupping his ears towards the Sky Blues supporters.

The winger has been widely criticised for his antics given the nature of United's win and the fact he had little to do with it, having not taken a penalty after coming on as a substitute when Erik ten Hag's side were 3-0 up.

And Maupay, a notorious wind-up merchant who has been involved in spats with Tottenham star James Maddison and United midfielder Scott McTominay this season, took to social media to state: "Just for the record, not even I would do this".

Arsenal legend David Seaman also accused Antony of showing a lack of class with his celebration, with the former goalkeeper telling Parimatch : "You see Antony, cupping his ears to the Coventry players – come on, have some more class.

"I think the respect Manchester United players showed Coventry was otherwise brilliant. Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning penalty and he went to celebrate, but he was oddly on his own by the end of it.

"It was a really good game. Manchester United were dominant for 70 minutes, there's no doubt about that, so there was probably a bit of embarrassment to be 3-0 up at that stage and let it get back to 3-3 and that's what might have provoked Antony's reaction."

However, Ten Hag has defended the 24-year-old by claiming he was "provoked". The Dutchman said: "He was provoked; that's why this was a reaction of that; you haven't seen the provocation, only the reaction. But he should not do it.

"I have seen Harry Maguire straight after and others (consoling Coventry players); we should acknowledge the performance of Coventry coming to that final and the comeback. We are 70 minutes totally dominating the game by far, and 3-0 must have been the game is closed, but the return from their side was very good."
