Erik ten Hag came out fighting on Tuesday, branding the criticism of Manchester United’s narrow FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City as “embarrassing” and “disgraceful”.

The fact that United threw away a three-goal lead and needed penalties to beat the Championship side on Sunday has clearly dented confidence among some elements of the club’s supporters, however.

United messaged club members on Monday afternoon, telling them that more tickets had become available for Wednesday’s match against Sheffield United “due to the high number of tickets returned by season ticket holders”.
