Erik ten Hag has been involved in a heated exchange with journalists and branding them a "disgrace."

The quotes comes in relation to certain reporters' "embarrassing" reaction to Manchester United's nail-biting FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City on Sunday. Despite being on the brink of one of the biggest upsets in English football history, United edged the clash on penalties to secure a spot in the final against Manchester City, replicating last year's decider.

The Red Devils were comfortably leading 3-0 until the 70th minute when the Championship side astonishingly levelled the score and forced extra time. Victor Torp almost completed an unbelievable comeback in the 121st minute, only for VAR to disallow his goal due to a marginal offside.

Despite the dramatic turn of events, United held their composure during the penalty shootout, winning 4-2 after Casemiro missed the first spot-kick. However, the team has since been portrayed as the defeated side due to their shocking collapse.

Even though this marks United's fifth trip to Wembley in just 16 months, Ten Hag is facing more scrutiny than ever, with rumours swirling that INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are planning a major overhaul this summer. Nonetheless, the Daily Express explained how the Dutch manager didn't let the criticism slide and responded during a press conference ahead of Sheffield United's visit on Wednesday.

Bullish Ten Hag launched into an impassioned response to critics ahead of the Premier League showdown at Old Trafford: "The reaction from you [the media] was embarrassing. It is the comments. Top football is about results. We made it to a final and we deserved it not only by this game but also the other games."

He did acknowledge United's shaky form, adding: "We lost control for 20 minutes, we also had bad luck, 3-2, 3-3. We were very lucky in the end, clear."

Ten Hag, 54, couldn't help boast about his side's achievements under his leadership at the eventful penalty shootout. He said: "Penalties was very good and we made it to the final, it is a huge achievement. Twice in two years is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup finals in four years. The comments are a disgrace."

However, United's track record in the Premier League paints a different picture with just one win in their last seven outings. This streak has left European qualification for next season hanging in the balance.

Now, the Red Devils are focused on securing European football and have crucial upcoming matches at Old Trafford against bottom-feeders Sheffield United and Burnley. But Ten Hag also confirmed another set of challenges, with an escalating injury crisis involving key players - including captain Bruno Fernandes - spiking concerns after the Coventry match.

The manager explained: "We had a problem with Alejandro Garnacho, that's why we took him off during the game. But I think he will be fine. Scott McTominay we have to assess today, really doubtful.

"Marcus Rashford is also doubtful and there was also an issue with Bruno Fernandes with the hand but I think he can make it. We have some doubts going into the game tomorrow."
