Erik ten Hag has lashed out at the "embarassing" comments made about his Manchester United side following their FA Cup success against Coventry City.

The Premier League heavyweights looked destined to cruise to this season's FA Cup final when 3-0 up against the Sky Blues with 19 minutes remaining. However, their Championship opponents mustered a late fightback to take the tie to an additional 30 minutes.

In the last minute of extra-time, Victor Torp then painfully saw a goal smeared from the record by VAR and United went on to book their place in next month's final via a penalty shoot-out. The Red Devils' celebrations looked somewhat tainted by the fact they had been forced all the way by lower league opposition having commanded proceedings earlier on, and plenty has been said about their manager, players and performance in the following days.

But it appears Ten Hag has not digested the media's portrayal of events well. Asked in his press conference on Tuesday if the way in which victory came about was "embarassing," he hit back at the "disgrace" of a suggestion.

"No. Abolutely not. You made enough and on the question: 'is it embarrassing?' No, the reaction from you was embarrassing," he retorted.

"It is the comments. Top football is about results, we made it to a final and we deserved it not only by this game but also the other games. We lost control for 20 mins, we also had bad luck, 3-2, 3-3. We were very lucky in the end, clear.

"Penalties was very good and we made it to the final, it is a huge achievement. Twice, in two years- is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup final in four years. The comments are a disgrace."

The United boss would later be asked about Antony's celebration in front of the Coventry players and fans. The Brazilian cupped his ears in the opposition's direction when running to celebrate the penalty shoot-out result - something that has now been condemned.

"He was provoked, that’s why this was a reaction of that, you haven’t seen the provocation, only the reaction," added Ten Hag. "But, he should not do it.

"I have seen Harry Maguire straight after and others, we should acknowledge the performance of Coventry coming to that final and the comeback we are 70 mins totally dominating the game by far and 3-0 must have been the game is closed but the return from their side was very good."
