Manchester United fans have made their feelings clear on Harry Maguire after the England defender’s performance against Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils returned to Premier League action after narrowly avoiding an FA Cup upset at the hands of Championship side Coventry City at Wembley on Sunday.

Manchester United were leading 3-0 against Coventry City before Erik ten Hag’s men capitulated in the second half and squandered their advantage in regular time.

Following on from the penalty shootout win against Coventry, United welcomed Premier League strugglers Sheffield United to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s United squad has been ravaged with injuries and he turned to Casemiro once again as a makeshift centre-back to pair alongside Harry Maguire.

Casemiro slotted in defence in the FA Cup semi-final tie against Coventry after United boss Erik ten Hag was without several first-team players.

Senior United centre-backs Willy Kambwala, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have all been out of action due to various injuries.

Maguire steps up for Man Utd

Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford last summer was shrouded in mystery after the England international was stripped of the club captaincy.

United manager Erik ten Hag awarded the armband to Bruno Fernandes and Maguire was subject to a £30m bid from West Ham last summer.

Maguire had fallen down the pecking order under Ten Hag last season after the United boss opted for a partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

However, the 31-year-old former United captain remained at Old Trafford and fought for his place in the starting XI, with Maguire re-establishing himself in the first team.

Maguire underwent a resurgence in form in the current campaign and the Red Devils defender has become a pivotal figure for the under-fire Ten Hag.

The England international scored against Coventry City in the FA Cup and Maguire found the back of the net for the second consecutive match for United.

Jayden Bogle stunned United in the first half by firing Sheffield United into a first-half lead before Maguire cancelled out the opener before half-time.

However, Maguire’s equaliser lasted only five minutes into the second half after Ben Brereton Diaz restored Sheffield United’s lead in the Premier League clash.

However, Fernandes scored a brace and Rasmus Hojlund found the back of the net to seal a convincing 4-2 comeback win for Ten Hag’s men.

Man Utd fans react to Maguire vs Sheffield United

United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, were impressed with Maguire’s display again after putting in a strong showing against Sheffield United.

Red Devils supporters have sent Ten Hag a clear message that the United and Three Lions centre-back must not be sold in the summer.

“Maguire [is] one of our biggest players. Always the one driving us forward when the chips are down, huge personality. Would be a mistake to sell him,” one fan said.

Another added: “Maguire [has] been our second-best player this season, bro, people actually wanna sell this demon.”

Someone else commented: “Actually, so happy for Harry Maguire, on the verge of being sold last summer to fighting back for his spot and putting a shift in every week.”

“BTW, United would be nuts not to keep Maguire at the end of this season,” a fourth posted.

While another tweeted: “If I have to pick between Lindelof or Maguire, I’d keep Maguire this summer.”

And a sixth wrote: “I hope when we have a [clearout] we honestly keep Harry Maguire.”

A seventh simply stated: “I would not sell Maguire.”
