Bayern Munich still does not have a replacement manager lined up for when Thomas Tuchel leaves the club at the end of the season. The candidate list is growing smaller in smaller with each passing weeks due to other big clubs also on the manager hunt, and certain managers having made their minds up to either go, or stay, elsewhere.

Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann were both top choices for Bayern, but both have recently committed their futures elsewhere. Alonso with Bayer Leverkusen and Nagelsmann with the German national team through World Cup 2026. As it stands, Austria manager Ralf Rangnick is the leading candidate for the Rekordmeister while Roberto De Zerbi, Zinedine Zidane, and Hansi Flick could still be in the mix. Arne Slot is also an option that has been mentioned, but he is also being pursued by Liverpool.

The question has certainly been asked. Could Bayern just keep hold of Tuchel for just another season? There has been a bit of a renewed sense of faith after Bayern got past Arsenal to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, but the season as a whole has still been underwhelming. Nonetheless, with the dwindling nature of the candidates list elsewhere, keeping a hold of Tuchel would, in theory, be an option, but the former Chelsea FC, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz manager is currently being courted by Manchester United for a potential return to the Premier League.

Per information from football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), despite Tuchel staying at Bayern being an option that is technically possible, there have been no concrete talks about that happening as of yet. It was a mutual agreement between both Tuchel and the club to part ways after the season ended, and it is very possible that the manager has his heart set on leaving for another club.

Tuchel’s original contact as Bayern manager was set to run through June 2025, but he will be leaving twelve months prior to that date if there is not a change of heart between himself and the club between now and the end of the season.
