Coventry City were beaten 3-2 at the CBS Arena on Wednesday night to all but end their hopes of a second Wembley appearance this season and another play-off final.

Twice the heroes of an agonising 3-2 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United on Sunday hit back on home turf to level with Hull City.

But Noah Ohio latched onto a loose back pass from Bobby Thomas 12 minutes from time to snatch all three points for the Tigers.

Club legend Steve Ogrizovic, the ex-goalkeeper summarising the game for BBC CWR, admitted it did not look good for the Sky Blues’ play-off hopes, but added: “They've just got to hope that Norwich and West Brom don't pick up any points.”

Kasey Palmer and Thomas replied to goals from Jaden Philogene and Fabio Carvalho before Ohio snatched the winner.

Ogrizovic told listeners: “The first-half was predictable. I thought Coventry would be slow out of the blocks after the disappointment on Sunday and they were. The second-half was much better.

“Ellis Simms comes on, Haji Wright comes on and then just when you think Coventry were going to get back in it, Bobby Thomas comes in with a bad pass. Brad Collins should be stronger, but it was more Thomas' fault for the back pass than Collins.

“The equaliser just wouldn't come. You can't expect to concede the amount of goals Coventry do and expect to win. They are scoring lots of goals but not keeping enough clean sheets.

“They've just got to hope that Norwich and West Brom don't pick up any points. It's do-able, but they are going to need a massive helping hand from those two clubs - and look after things on their own end.”

However, Coventry will need a miracle if they are to repeat last season’s efforts when they reached the play-off final before losing to Luton Town at Wembley.

They are eighth on 63 points, nine points off the top six but having played a game less than West Brom, Norwich and also Hull, who move up to seventh with tonight’s win.

To get in the top six, Coventry will need to beat Blackburn, Ipswich and QPR in their final three games while hoping Norwich and West Brom lose both of theirs, and that Hull lose at least one as well.
