Ten Hag: There was no panic

Wednesday 24 April 2024 23:52

Erik ten Hag has provided his verdict on Manchester United's 4-2 victory over Sheffield United.

The manager was pleased with the spirit shown by his side to come back from twice falling behind, on the back of Sunday's gruelling Emirates FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.

Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes (2) and Rasmus Hojlund scored the goals as the Reds capitalised on Newcastle United's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace to move above the Magpies into sixth spot in the Premier League table.

Ten Hag: We had to show resilience

The boss gives his views on team spirit, Bruno Fernandes and the Academy, after our win over Sheffield United...

POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES

"It was a good game for the crowd. Many positives today - the resilience to fight back after, two times, we were losing. Straightforward, also negatives. The two goals annoy me. Real giveaways. It can't happen. Unacceptable. Losing focus and the second goal was about indiscipline. We have to learn from this and improve on that factor. Good goals, our goals were very good as well, from set-plays and also open play. We created many more chances and I'm happy with the win and we move on."

WE STEPPED IT UP

"Sheffield United also collected points lately, against good teams like Chelsea, for instance, and there are no easy games. We were losing but we are resilient. You see it again, the team spirit in the dressing room. We can deal with setbacks and just increase the tempo, make it difficult for our opponents, create more chances and keep calm. Have you seen some panic? No, not at all. The team was very composed and very stable. We played very well, kept making connections and looking for switches, creating chances throughout the game."

THE GOALS ARE FLOWING

"One of our targets is we want to enjoy the crowd and our fans, to play dynamic football, attacking football. That is what we see, especially after the winter, very creative and we create a lot of chances and also score a lot of goals, which is good. We are always striving for doing our best across the team. For instance, you see the number of goals we're scoring in this moment is huge progress during the season, which is very good. If we have our back four back, then I'm sure we will also be more consistent in our defending."

BRILLIANT BRUNO

"He's in very good form. He is very happy in his position on the field. So I think he finds his place in this team, he's very creative, scoring goals, giving assists and is very important in transition, both ways. I'm very happy with his performance."

Erik ten Hag speaks to the media after our 4-2 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford...

IMPORTANT GOAL FOR HOJLUND

"He knows how to do that, he showed it in January and February. Then he had the injury, which obviously broke his rhythm. His goal was very important for him. Strikers need goals to build confidence and, now one has gone in, I am confident more will come."

CASEMIRO AT THE BACK

"He's a very good centre-back. I think he did brilliant, together with Harry [Maguire]. Very good, decent centre-backs. Very stable, in and out of possession. He is playing very good and we know he can play there as well."

AIMS FOR THE RUN-IN

"Manchester United have to win every game. Every one. It's expecting we are winning the league, as a club, we are not that far. We know where we are. We have to fight for a position to get into Europe. With all our problems, we have two opportunities - in the Premier League and FA Cup."
