Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is being lined up for a new job after visiting Carrington recently.

The 40-year-old has been working towards his coaching badges while managing Feyenoord's U18s. In December, Van Persie spent a week at Carrington observing Erik ten Hag's methods before returning in February in a media role to interview his fellow countryman for TNT Sports.

After his latest visit, Ten Hag stressed that all former players were welcome to come back to United if they needed help boosting their careers post-playing days. Van Persie may not be returning to Carrington again, though, if reports in the Netherlands are to be believed.

According to AD.nl, Van Persie is on the verge of becoming the manager of Eredivisie side Heerenveen. Currently, De Superfriezen sit in mid-table and should Van Persie get the job, it would be his first managerial job in senior football.

After returning to United earlier this year, Van Persie expressed his delight at being back in Manchester. He said: "It’s always nice to be back.

"I feel that (being part of the Manchester United family) not only in the stadium, but I feel it in the streets. This afternoon I was walking in Deansgate and the love the Manchester fans still give me is incredible."

Van Persie is not the first member of that United squad to give management a go. Wayne Rooney has had several jobs since retiring, most recently his ill-fated stint at Championship club Birmingham City, where he was sacked at the beginning of the year.
