As many as 12 players could leave Manchester United this summer

Manchester United are reportedly planning a squad overhaul this summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his new football operations team set out their plans to bring success back to England’s greatest club.

According to David McDonnell of The Mirror, 12 players could be on their way out this summer, which is something that will please a lot of fans who are fed up of watching underperforming stars each week.

The club will be operating under limitations imposed by financial fair play regulations, however, we now have co-owners who want to invest in the squad and bring success on the pitch. It will take time but an overhaul may be required.

It is suggested that every position within the team will be reevaluated by new technical director Jason Wilcox as well as the incoming sporting director (Dan Ashworth once Newcastle take him off gardening leave).

In defence, where there has been an injury crisis throughout the season, we can expect several players to leave. I’m looking at the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

The midfield also appears poised for transformation. We all know that the days are numbered for Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, despite the positive influence both midfielders had on the team last season when United won the Carabao Cup and finished third in the Premier League. Their legs have gone.

Scott McTominay was linked with a move away from United last summer, but he has shown his importance to the squad this season at times Ten Hag needed him most. It remains to be seen if the club will look to cash in on the Scotland international.

Additionally, Sofyan Amrabat can forget about staying at Old Trafford because the Moroccan has been nowhere near good enough.

There is uncertainty over the future of Antony, who has failed to perform consistently since his mega-money move from Ajax, so United may consider taking a hit on the Brazilian. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are also mentioned as possible departures.

Rashford has sparked a lot of debate with his underwhelming performances this season. The forward scored 30 goals last season, but many feel a big decision needs to be made on his future. We shouldn’t forget that he agreed bigger and better terms with the club last year!

  1. Hah. Don’t disagree with most of these, McTominay definitely should stay, as I’ve said all along. I’d also argue for Maguire to stay; he seems to have played his way back into form and now adding goals. We know whichever defenders may be signed, they’ll be injured before long and Maguire as a squad member will be required. Which leaves the thorny question of Rashford. At his best he’s one of the best but we’ve not seen that very often this season, and we need players who can turn it on week in week out.
Plus attitude somewhat questionable on and off the pitch. Knowing what he could be, I’d hate to see him sold, but won’t be surprised if that happens.

  2. The new co-owner must look the mistake from the management whereby in January never cash in to take new defender when United defender most of that are injured and stop blaming the Manager. If you are in his shoes you will feel problem. United defender are shaky and you can spent of buying 25% stake why you do not want get good defender during the transfer door is open. Second thing that in the squad have some players are showing hero’s and try to give negative kick the ass and ask the player to get out.

  3. Antony needs To Go, Even At A Loss!! Rashford Needs To Go As Well!! Hopefully between the sale of both, there will be no great monetary loss!! But neither is likely to happen, because no REAL Footbal Club Wants To Pay Big Money And Big Salaries For A Mid Twenties, Not So Intelligent, Little Boy And A Late 20s Knight Wannabe Dreamer!! Our Best Bet Moving Forward Is To Better Vet For Flawed Personalities And Crappy Characters!!

  4. Antony is a personality that never would have been tolerated by Sir Alex. If we are to have any success we need to get back to proper standards both on and off the pitch when recruiting.

  5. Manchester United must consider and complete clearing out all under performing and expensive players. They should focus on rapid introduction of younger players from their famed academy. Adopting this option will save them a lot of money and stress.

    1. Definitely and buy good UK talent. I’ve heard Dewsbury-Hall suggested and I think we should have got Ward-Prowse, Harvey Barnes and hopefully a good scouting network can find talent before they become expensive.

Look how Sir Alex found Ole, Ronny, Park Ji-Sung, Chicarito….

  6. Eriksen, Varane, Casemiro, Amrabat, Anthony (loan?), Rashford (very possibly), Lindelof, Wan Bissaka – it’s a big job for the manager and whatever the rest are called….Technical Director, Director of Football, CEO etc etc

EtH needs to find right personnel and the right balance and challenge for the title next year, if he stays and there is something, I don’t know what it is saying to me that we should put faith in him and stick with him???

It’s a hard decision and a very important one that I hope Sir Jim, Sir Dave, Omar, Jason and maybe Dan can make successfully!
