Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers shock name among contenders for huge English Premier League job

A few names are ahead of him in the early betting however

BRENDAN RODGERS has emerged as one of the contenders to be the next manager of West Ham.

Current Irons boss David Moyes is under mounting pressure following back-to-back Premier League defeats to Fulham and Crystal Palace, coupled with a Europa League exit to Bayer Leverkusen.

West Ham sit eighth in the table at the moment and won the Europa Conference League last year but Moyes has never been universally popular amongst sections of the London club's fans.

The recent 5-2 loss to London rivals Palace has particularly angered the Hammers faithful.

And already the bookies are taking bets on who will be the club's next boss.

Rodgers is 9/1 with Betfair to make a return to the Premier League with the Irons, having previously coached Swansea, Liverpool and Leicester City at that level.

He angered Celtic supporters when he left three-quarters of the way through the 2018-19 season to join Leicester, with the Hoops gunning for a Treble Treble at the time.

His return to Scotland is yet to yield a trophy but his team is top of the Premiership, three points clear of Rangers.

He also guided Celtic to the Scottish Cup final last week.

Former Real Madrid, Spain and Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is the favourite for the London Stadium post though, should it become available.

Ex-Chelsea and Brighton head coach Graham Potter is also in the running at 3/1 with current Wolves boss Gary O'Neil a bit further out at 7/1.

Ruben Amorim, Michael Carrick, Paulo Fonseca and Hansi Flick are all just ahead of Rodgers in the betting at 8/1.

West Ham take on faltering Liverpool this weekend as they look to recover from the last two weeks.

They still have a slim chance of sneaking into the final European spot before the end of the season ahead of Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.
