Marcus Rashford is taking a stand after receiving "months" of online abuse.

The Manchester United forward, 26, took to X in the early hours of Friday morning to announce that "enough is enough", having recently blacked out his profile picture.

Responding to a fan post which read: "The way Marcus Rashford is being treated is absolutely disgusting. It's cruel. It's abuse," the England man wrote: "I appreciate your support! It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough."

Rashford has been in poor form all season, having scored just eight goals in 40 games in all competitions so far. As such, he's come in for plenty of criticism, in many cases from United supporters who have grown frustrated with his form and work ethic, particularly with reports linking him with a summer exit.

Reaction to Rashford's post was mixed. Many fans sent the player messages of support, hitting out at those who'd been abusive, but others thought the academy graduate's words were a little hollow, with some even urging the club to sell him at the end of the season.

"So fed up of this guy," one X user wrote in response. "No accountability at all. Really thinks he's unfairly treated and can't understand how not everybody loves him. Victimization isn't helping you, quite the opposite."

Another said: "Ronaldo was booed at every away game and went on to achieve insane things, and here this guy is crying over the smallest amount of criticism. Levels."

A third commented: "Another player whose social media account will be in the papers more than their performances. Don't know what the whole blacked out photo means either. Think it's obvious it's best to part ways in the summer. Never as bad as some made out but also not as good as others made out."

A couple of months ago, Rashford slammed anyone questioning his commitment to United in a piece for The Players' Tribune. He also lashed out at the media, accusing them of targeting him unfairly.

"I don’t normally like to respond to things said about me. It’s not in my nature. I’m an introvert... but sometimes, certain lines get crossed, and I can’t help but want people to just understand who I am as a person," he wrote.

"I’m not trying to have a go at the media. I understand the game... [but] it can’t just be about me as a 26-year-old lad on a night out, or a lad getting a parking ticket. It’s got to be about how much my car costs, guessing my weekly salary, my jewellery or even my tattoos.

"It’s got to be about my body language, and questioning my morals, and speculating about my family, and my football future. There’s a tone to it that you don’t get with all footballers. Let’s just leave it at that."

He also said: "I can take any criticism. I can take any headline. From podcasts, social media and the papers. I can take it. But if you start questioning my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family into it, then I’d simply ask you to have a bit more humanity."

Rashford is on the verge of reaching 400 games for United, having scored 131 goals since making his debut for the club back in 2016.
