Report: Man United are in the race for striker linked with Spurs

It turns out Tottenham’s pursuit of Ivan Toney might not be straight-forward this summer, with 90 min now reporting that the Manchester United hierarchy are big fans of the striker.

Just a couple of days ago, GiveMeSport reported that Spurs’ pursuit of Toney had been boosted as some of their rivals are hesitant to move for the Brentford star.

The report claimed that Arsenal do not consider the 27-year-old to be a target while Man Utd have reservations over a move for the England star.

It was suggested that even though the Bees value the centre-forward at  £60m, Ange Postecoglou’s men could test their resolve by submitting a £45m offer for the player.

Man United remain keen on Ivan Toney

However, that information has now been contradicted by 90 min, who say that United are still very much in the race for Toney’s signature.

The outlet says that the Red Devils want to add a number nine to their squad this summer and are big admirers of the Brentford man.

It is revealed that Erik Ten Hag’s men believe that the striker would bring experience and leadership to their dressing room and they like ‘his confidence that borders on swagger’.

The publication adds that the Manchester club could thus be willing to meet Toney’s bumper salary demands, which are believed to be in the region of £250,000 per week.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Tottenham would offer Toney a chance to remain in London and the club could argue that they have a more promising footballing project than Man Utd at the moment, I do not see the Lilywhites being prepared to pay the striker half a million pounds per week.
