DEPENDING on who you ask, he either wasn't given enough of a chance at Ibrox or he simply wasn't good enough for Rangers.

Either way, he's making up for lost time in Glasgow now.

Cedric Itten joined Gers in the summer of 2020 on a four-year deal for a reported £2.7m.

That deal would be coming to an end in a few months' time if it wasn't for the fact he's already left and been starring for BSC Young Boys back in Switzerland.

Come the summer though he could have TWO more league titles to his name over that four-year spell than his old club.

Itten was part of the Rangers title-winning squad in 2020-21 under Steven Gerrard but was never a regular starter, scoring four goals in 27 league appearances. He played seven times in European competition, adding another two goals to bring his total for the campaign to seven.

At the start of the following season Itten moved to Greuther Furth on loan, where he scored twice in 12 Bundesliga matches but he was recalled by Gers in January by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who had since taken over from Gerrard.

But he couldn't force his way into the Dutchman's plans either and was moved on in the summer, heading back to his homeland.

He was an integral part of their Swiss Super League-winning side last year, contributing 19 goals to their title victory (second only to strike partner Jean-Pierre Nsame), and helped fire them to Swiss Cup glory too.

Itten hasn't been quite as electric this term with the 27-year-old notching seven goals in 25 games but he and his team mates stand on the brink of another domestic title as they sit five points clear of FC Lugano with five games to play.

His form has also been good enough for him to earn call-ups to the Swiss national team and he scored in a qualifier against Andorra back in September.

Interestingly, this season Itten has been joined by former Celtic flop Saidy Janko at the Wankdorf Stadium.

Janko was a bit of a misfit at Celtic and made just 12 league appearances, also spending time on loan at Barnsley. He's since flitted around with Saint-Ettiene, Porto, Nottingham Forest, Real Valladolid and VfL Bochum (quite the CV).

Former Manchester United trainee Janko, 28, has been the right-back for Young Boys more often that not this season and scored in the semi-final on the run to cup success for his new team.
