Ander Herrera has appeared to throw brutal shade at one Manchester United star after reacting to a training video featuring former teammate David de Gea.
David de Gea has been without a club since last summer after the Manchester United legend’s contract expired at the end of the 2022-23 season.
The 33-year-old Spaniard has been tipped to extend his stay at Old Trafford and De Gea was reportedly willing to take a massive pay cut as part of a new deal.
However, talks over a new United contract broke down and De Gea walked away with from the Premier League club after an illustrious spell at Old Trafford.
De Gea, who lifted a Premier League title under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, scooped the Premier League Golden Glove award last season at United.
United manager Erik ten Hag was reunited with former Ajax star Andre Onana last summer after the Red Devils signed him from Inter Milan in a £47.2m deal.
Andre Onana succeeded De Gea as United No 1 and the 28-year-old Cameroonian has faced criticism at times this season over his blunders between the sticks.
Herrera reacts to Man Utd legend De Gea’s video
David de Gea took to Instagram and appeared to tease his long-awaited return to football after sharing a video of himself training with his followers on social media.
The Manchester United legend has attracted interest from around the world since becoming a free agent, including from his native homeland and from Saudi Arabia.
However, De Gea has patiently waited on the sideline and is continuing to tease a potential return to football, having made no clear indication of retiring so far.
Posting his video on Instagram, the former United star wrote: “We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger.”
De Gea can be seen taking part in a series of training drills in the clip and the ex-United No 1 hasn’t lost his touch with his superb shot-stopping ability.
The former Spain international’s video caught the eye of many people, including his former Spain and United teammate Ander Herrera.
United fan-favourite Herrera showed his support for De Gea while simultaneously appearing to take a not-so-subtle dig at Red Devils No 1 Andre Onana.
“Can’t wait to see the real number 1,” he wrote, adding a heart emoji.

Former United captain Harry Maguire was among those spotted in the comments, with the England defender sharing a heart emoji and a raising hands emoji.
United legend Patrice Evra, who played alongside De Gea at Old Trafford, also shared in his excitement at his former teammate’s potential return to football.
“Loading,” he wrote, adding a fire emoji and a heart emoji.
Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes, who has remained close pals with De Gea after his United spell, and winger Facundo Pellistri reacted to the United legend’s post.
