Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has requested the signing of Sporting CP ace Viktor Gyokeres in the summer.

According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United are looking at ways to reinforce their attack and Sporting CP’s Swedish sensation Viktor Gyokeres has been on their radar for a while now. The 25-year-old has a massive release clause, and the Red Devils are looking at ways to reduce the asking price.

Gyokeres has taken his game to another level since joining the Portuguese club last summer from Coventry City. The Swede has featured in 45 matches for them and has contributed towards 54 goals. He has found the back of the net on 38 occasions this term.

His exceptional form in front of goal has not gone unnoticed, and there is interest in his services from across Europe. Multiple top clubs have been monitoring the 25-year-old, and there could be a bidding war for him in the summer.

Manchester United pushing for Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on having Gyokeres in their squad. Erik ten Hag’s team have failed to reach the heights they did last season, and the Dutch manager is now looking at ways to reinforce his team. He has requested the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

The former Ajax boss feels the 25-year-old could do wonders for them. Gyokeres will provide much-needed support to young Rasmus Hojlund and will also add a lot of goals to the mix.

While ten Hag has requested the signing, it won’t be easy for the Red Devils to strike a deal with Sporting. Their manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that they have no intentions to negotiate his departure, and any club interested will have to trigger his release by paying €100 million.

Manchester United have no intention of paying that big a fee. But they are working to figure out a way to lower the asking price. The Premier League club are willing to offer a few of their player plus cash to land the 25-year-old at the club.

It will be interesting to see if Sporting are open to such a deal. Meanwhile, the player has a desire to return to England, and the opportunity to lead the line for Manchester United will surely be of interest to him.
