Manchester United played out a dull draw with relegation contenders Burnley on Saturday.

Manchester United once again managed to have an open match with plenty of chances but one that was also incredibly boring due to a lack of quality.

They conceded a shot within 20 seconds and Burnley had much better opportunities in the opening 45, even if United had slightly more.

The second half was an even drearier affair with the number of clear chances for both sides drying up.

It wasn’t until the 79th minute did something finally happen as Erik ten Hag’s side managed to break the deadlock through the opportunistic and composed Antony.

United didn’t have long to hold on to the win but again couldn’t do it as Zeki Amdouni equalised from the spot a few minutes later.

Here’s how the players rated.

Andre Onana – 6

Once again faced with a flurry of shots but kept United in the game in the first half. Made a save-of-the-season contender to stop a Lyle Foster header going in and then denied the forward in a one-on-one.

Until the 85th minute, he was the obvious Player of the Match but then he clumsily gave away a penalty with a reckless charge off his line and couldn’t save it.

Only his first-half saves prevent his rating from being lower after such a costly mistake.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Not the player you want popping up in a dangerous position in the box. Otherwise an uneventful game.

Casemiro – 6

Seems to have gotten a new lease of life as a centre-back and has actually been more effective on the ball coming forward from the back-line. Some more great sliding challenges.

Should have done better with a free header late on.

Harry Maguire – 6

Beaten for pace on one occasion in the first half but otherwise a steady presence at the back, especially given he was often left vulnerable by the marauding Dalot.

Diogo Dalot – 5

Not as effective going forward as he was against Sheffield United and often left his defenders exposed with his adventuring up the field.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5

Comfortable enough on the ball but didn’t really assert himself in the match. Hasn’t had a brilliant performance since his games for England now.

The decision to take him off in the 64th minute was roundly booed but it was hard criticise given Mainoo had offered little.

Christian Eriksen – 5

Came close to scoring with an effort that was deflected wide and had some nice touches. However, his lack of energy and presence in midfield allowed Burnley to easily play through the midfield.

Antony – 6

Other than some nice movement, Antony had a largely ineffective game for 79 minutes until he pounced on a loose pass, advanced in on goal and coolly finished under pressure.

A first league goal of the season and a nice way to get it.

Bruno Fernandes – 7

Remains the only real, consistently quality player in the United side. Became the first player to reach 100 key passes in the Premier League this season with a delicious cross to Garnacho in the second minute and rattled the post.

A perfect pass to Garnacho in the second half should have been better utilised as well. Created nine chances but his teammates didn’t take them.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7

Continues to be a real threat on the left with his mazy dribbling and created some good chances.

Yet, wasn’t clinical enough in front of goal once again. Scooped a great chance over in the opening minutes then bent one well wide of the post after another great Fernandes pass.

Rasmus Hojlund – 4

Completely isolated in the first half with no involvement in the game at all. The first and only time he finally got the ball in the 54th minute, he opted to tee up Wan-Bissaka with predictable results.

Taken off in the 64th minute and it doesn’t look like Wednesday’s tap-in has done much to rejuvenate his form.

Substitutes

Amad – 5

Teed Garnacho up for a good effort and had a shot on target. Worked hard but not much time on the ball.

Scott McTominay – 5

A threat in the box as United looked for a winner but suffered an injury and had to go off.

Sofyan Amrabat – 5

Did nothing of note.

Mason Mount – 6

Replaced McTominay in injury time. Played one great pass to launch a counter attack but the move broke down.
