Newcastle United's Alexander Isak has raised his game to such an extent this season that he's now a target for top European clubs, according to former Magpies striker Louis Saha.

But the Frenchman will win no fans among the St James' Park faithful by suggesting Manchester United should consider a move - should he be available this summer. Newcastle are facing the possibility of having to sell some of their top players if they want to make serious invesment again the transfer window, although Eddie Howe is keen to keep his prize assets at St James' Park.

There has been talk of interest in Bruno Guimaraes, with Isak also linked to Arsenal and Tottenham. Whether Newcastle would be interested in selling any of their stars to a Premier League rival is debatable, but Saha, who had a spell on loan with the Magpies in 1999 before a career which took in Man United, Fulham and Everton among others, says the Old Trafford side should take a look at the Swede.

“He’s a top player and he’s really raised his game this season," Saha told Betfred. "His link-up play is very good, he’s very sharp, he can create chances for himself cutting in from the left or right and he’s got a lot of flair. It’s a great combination.

“He’s a tall guy, so he could definitely be a better target man in the box, but he can certainly play with other strikers and with the wingers Newcastle have, he’s proven how well he can link-up with them. If he’s available this summer, then I believe he could be a really good addition for Manchester United.”

Newcastle are hoping to finish ahead of Erik ten Hag's side this season, with much depending on the showdown at Old Trafford on May 15. Isak took his tally to 23 for the season - 19 in the Premier League - with another brace in the 5-1 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.
