Manchester United’s Scott McTominay is a serious doubt to face Arsenal after suffering another injury setback against Burnley on Saturday.

Scott McTominay has been one of Manchester United’s biggest goal threats this season, outscored only by Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund in all competitions.

But with Arsenal set to travel to Old Trafford in two weeks’ time, McTominay is a serious injury doubt.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against Burnley, Erik ten Hag had warned that McTominay wasn’t fully fit, and he wouldn’t be able to play more than half an hour of football.

The midfielder came on in the 65th minute, only to be forced off again in injury time.

The issue looked relatively serious, with McTominay pounding the ground in pain as he clutched his knee, but ten Hag admitted afterwards that they don’t know exactly how bad it is yet.

“Yeah, we have to assess with the doctors, the diagnosis I don’t know at this moment,” ten Hag told a press conference.

But if McTominay wasn’t fully fit before the game, and if he’s now suffered a setback in his injury, his participation against Arsenal in a fortnight seems very improbable.

The player himself won’t want to take any risks of a more serious injury, with the European Championships coming up this summer.

Manchester United do have a few players hoping to make injury comebacks before the Arsenal clash.

Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Anthony Martial have all returned to the training pitches, and United are hoping to have them available for the final few games.

Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof may also be available, with United having to operate without most of their senior centre-backs in the last few weeks.

Tyrell Malacia is the only United player almost guaranteed to miss the Arsenal clash at this stage.
