Manchester United have reportedly decided against signing Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent transfer.
The Moroccan midfielder joined on loan from Fiorentina last summer for £8.5million, with a further £21.4m agreed to keep him at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
However, Amrabat has largely failed to nail down a regular first-team spot under Erik ten Hag and has started just seven Premier League games.
Italian portal TMW report on United’s decision to let Amrabat return to Fiorentina, from where he could be promptly sold.
The Serie A side are said to want in the region of £13m for the 27-year-old, who is described as ready to try his luck elsewhere, with interest coming from Juventus and AC Milan.
The decision could prove among the first of a busy summer at Old Trafford under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a senior management including incoming technical director Jason Wilcox.
The INEOS billionaire will have to decide whether to stick with manager Erik ten Hag alongside a potential squad overhaul in the transfer market.
Defenders are top of their list with Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Ronald Araujo of Barcelona and Wolves’ Max Kilman just some of the names recently linked. Palace winger Michael Olise is also of interest to United.
Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof have all been touted to be moved on.
