Antony says he is determined to prove his critics wrong and be a success at Manchester United.

Antony has struggled to live up his £80.6million pricetag and only scored his first Premier League goal this season on Saturday against Burnley. The Brazil star claims he is not worried about his transfer fee and wants to prove himself at Old Trafford.

“[The transfer fee] doesn’t really impact me because I know my worth,” he said. “The money is the money and obviously everyone speaks about it, but no-one would if the performances of everyone and myself were at the top.

“So, it’s something that’s just a way of working harder, knowing I can get better, I know my worth and I will. The critics are going to exist, and it’s something that makes me want to work harder, prove to myself first.

“I’m going to keep working, giving everything for the group because it’s most important to have a good mentality and to be focused.”

Antony, 24, admits this season has been disappointing and claims he can take criticism. “It’s been a very tough year for me and the team,” he said. “The results are not ones we expected.

“I’m someone who takes criticism very well and I want to work on it. I think we all have to focus on finishing the season the best as we can.”

United boss Erik ten Hag was full of praise for the Brazil international after his performance against Burnley at Old Trafford. The Dutch boss suggested he was not surprised to see the former Ajax star net such was the quality of his outing.

“He was a threat all through,” Ten Hag said. “It wasn’t a surprise he scored a goal as he also had more chances before that to score a goal.

“Two or three times, with his runs and good movements in the box. He was there and we are pleased with his performance today.”
