Josh Cullen admitted that he had ‘mixed emotions’ after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

And after captaining Burnley at Old Trafford, he spoke of his pride at realising his Premier League dream this season.

Burnley secured a point against the Red Devils thanks to Zeki Amdouni’s 87th minute penalty - but Cullen felt they could have come away with a win.

The Turf Moor men are second from bottom in the Premier League, a point behind Luton Town and two adrift of 17th placed Nottingham Forest with three games remaining.

“A little bit of mixed emotions to be honest,” is how Cullen explained his feelings at Saturday’s result.

“I think anytime you come to Old Trafford, it’s a tough place to come and anything you can get here should be valuable to the team.

“But on the other side of the coin, I suppose I think we had big chances in the game and on another day could have probably won it.”

Cullen and Co face a tricky run-in, with games at home to Newcastle and fellow-strugglers Forest, with a trip to Tottenham sandwiched between those two fixtures.

“Yes definitely, tough games to go but we’ve had tough games that we’ve played over the last few weeks, playing against a good Brighton side, going to Sheffield United away is never an easy game and then coming (to United) as well,” said the Ireland midfielder.

“Every game’s tough in this league, we know that we’ve got three massive games now against good sides.

“But we have to take the positives from today and what we’ve been building the whole season and believe we can get as many points as we need to stay in the league.”

As for captaining Burnley at Old Trafford, he added: “This season playing in the Premier League at the highest level has always been an ambition of mine, growing up to test myself against the best players, play in the best stadiums in the world.

“So to lead the team out today was a really nice feeling and good to get a point, that’s the main thing for the team and now we move onto the next one.”
