Manchester United legend and pundit Gary Neville has been speaking about Chelsea following their last game.

The Blues drew 2-2 with Aston Villa, losing more ground in the race for European football.

The match could have ended differently, with Axel Disasi scoring in stoppage time, but the Frenchman’s goal was disallowed by the VAR for a foul in the build-up.

It comes after Chelsea‘s heavy 5-0 loss to London rivals Arsenal, so last week was not exactly a good one for Mauricio Pochettino‘s men.

Their next game is another tricky one as well, as they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Gary Neville names the three areas Chelsea need to strengthen

Chelsea’s season has been an absolute disaster and you would now expect them to dip into the transfer market in order to have a better campaign next term.

Neville thinks three positions need to be strengthened at Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the former full-back said: “Going back to it, if they can get those right three players in at the start of the season, the striker, the centre-back to replace Thiago [Silva] and the goalkeeper I think as well, those three positions come in and they have got to deal with the James-Chilwell thing because that’s a sort of a blow every single season.

“They have to cope with the idea that they are losing these two. I don’t know how they deal with that, but they could deal with it. They have to be positive about dealing with that. They probably think they have got the support players, [Malo] Gusto is a good right-back, whether they think [Marc] Cucurella can do the left-back job.”

Who could Chelsea sign?

Starting with the striker position, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen appears to be the player who Chelsea really want.

The Nigerian is the club’s main target for that area, HITC insider Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle.

Further back, Chelsea could sign Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande to strengthen their central defence. It has already been reported that Chelsea have had discussions about bringing the 20-year-old in.

As for between the sticks, Brazilian goalkeeper Bento has been linked with a move to west London.

Despite the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, it looks like Chelsea could be quite active in the upcoming transfer window.
