Manchester United have suffered injury problem after injury problem this season and Erik ten Hag would no doubt love some positive news between now and the summer.

Willy Kambwala, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane – all centre backs – were ruled out against Burnley on Saturday.

Mason Mount was at least able to return but another United injury never seems too far away.

Tyrell Malacia hasn’t been seen all season, Luke Shaw is injured again and Anthony Martial hasn’t kicked a ball since December.

It has been a case of one injury after another for United this season, leaving boss Ten Hag frustrated throughout the campaign.

The end of the season is now in sight but that doesn’t mean the injury news stops there, with United hoping to keep everybody fit ahead of the FA Cup final.

Scott McTominay shares injury update

Ten Hag will have been very worried on Saturday afternoon after Scott McTominay went down injured.

The Scot came on for Kobbie Mainoo with 25 minutes to play but went down injured late on and was substituted himself as Mount came on.

There have been fears that McTominay’s injury could see him miss the end of the season and even Euro 2024.

Well, McTominay has now taken to Instagram to ease those fears, posting a message to United fans on his story.

McTominay confirmed that the injury is ‘nothing serious’ and he just slipped, similar to an injury picked up against Chelsea earlier this season.

McTominay added that he was visibly upset because he thought his injury was more serious than it was, but he is expecting to be back soon.

“I slipped and fell awkward on my knee similar to against Chelsea,” said McTominay. “Nothing serious hyperextension but I was angry and upset that I thought it was worse than it was. Hoping to be back on the pitch very soon to help the team as much as I can,” he added.

Fears eased

McTominay falling down with injury against Burnley left everybody concerned – including those on MUTV.

Presenter Mark Sullivan noted that McTominay looked ‘distressed’ after going down and fans may have seen him punching the turf after going down.

Analyst Febian Brandy added that the injury ‘didn’t look good’, believing that McTominay wouldn’t have come off at all unless it was a serious injury.

Those immediate fears have now been eased, even if McTominay is still unlikely to be in action as United take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next Monday.

McTominay will want to make sure that he is ready to play in that FA Cup final against Manchester City before then looking ahead to Euro 2024.

The midfielder has been a reliable player when called up on this season and Ten Hag will hope to have him fit and firing for the final stages of the campaign.
