Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has candidly admitted that he still shares a close relationship with one Manchester City superfan.

One of Manchester United’s beloved No 7s, Eric Cantona forever etched a legendary legacy at Old Trafford after his spell under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 57-year-old Frenchman was well known for his eccentric behaviour and his larger-than-life persona in the United dressing room.

Cantona had an incredible impact at the Red Devils and lifted four Premier League titles and two FA Cups after his move from Leeds United in 1992.

The United legend served as captain at United under Sir Alex Ferguson, who once hailed Cantona as one of the four world-class players he managed in his career.

Cantona scored an impressive 81 times in 183 appearances for United before he stunned the world with his shock retirement in 1997.

The former France international, who was only 30 at the time of his retirement, ventured down different avenues after his legendary playing career.

Cantona has actively pursued careers in acting and music, with the United legend dropping his debut EP, ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven,’ in 2023.

Cantona’s relationship with Man City fan

Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona recently talked up his debut live album, ‘Cantona Sings Eric,’ which was released in March.

Speaking to the NME, the Premier League Hall of Famer also opened up about his relationship with former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.

Cantona previously featured in the music video for Liam Gallagher’s ‘Once,’ a track from the Manchester native’s 2019 album Why Me? Why Not.

The former Leeds United and Red Devils player also made an appearance alongside Gallagher at the NME Awards 2020.

Cantona presented the 51-year-old Manchester City fan with the Best Music Film award for his 2019 documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was.

When asked if they were still friends, he told the NME: “Yes, of course… I listened to his new album with John Squire, the guitarist of The Stone Roses [titled ‘Liam Gallagher John Squire’].

“It’s a great album. I love it. And they invited me to go and watch them live. I hope I can go, but I don’t think I can with all the [gigs I’m playing]. We’ll see.”

Man Utd legend Cantona on his passion

Cantona remains invested in his music career and the eccentric United legend opened up on what makes him tick as a human.

The former France forward insisted that his passion has “always” been in the arts and music was one potential avenue for him to “express” himself.

“I’ve always been passionate about art,” Cantona said

“Since I was a kid, I’ve felt the need to express myself through any kind of art. The last [art form] I hadn’t tried was music.”
