Manchester United are going out quietly this season but Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the summer transfer window to start with a bang.

The Red Devils' drab 1-1 draw at home to second-bottom Burnley on Saturday summed up what's been a hugely disappointing campaign for boss Erik ten Hag, whose side - regardless of who's managing it - will go without Champions League football next season. Co-owner Ratcliffe has already made sweeping changes above Ten Hag, so now the question of who'll be in the dugout come August is looming large.

But to have any success in 2024-25, United's manager will need to be backed in the transfer market with plenty of incomings and outgoings. Ratcliffe and co have already identified key a position which they want to strengthen - but they've got competition from a rival.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

United and Arsenal both want Guehi

Manchester United want to sign a centre-back this summer and Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is among at the top names on their shortlist. The 23-year-old England international joins Wolves skipper Max Kilman on the Red Devils' radar, according to the Times, but rivals Arsenal are also interested in Guehi.

The former Chelsea defender has spent the past three seasons at Selhurst Park and steadily improved his pedigree. Palace would demand £55m for his services, giving Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co something to ponder in the coming weeks before the season ends and Premier League clubs lock in for the summer window.

Tuchel gets legend's backing

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel insists that outgoing Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel should be in the conversation to become the Red Devils' new manager. Although Erik ten Hag remains in his post, speculation is growing over how long the Dutchman will be in charge after a wretched campaign which has seen his stock take a drastic hit.

Schmeichel, who sat next to Sir Jim Ratcliffe during United's 4-3 loss to Chelsea earlier this month, told beIN Sports: "He has that kind of pedigree, he's got the authority, he's proven he can win which I think is really important. He doesn't come with a set system, 'This is how our football is being played'… yeah, of course, he's a big-club manager, isn't he?"

Ratcliffe won't sell key trio

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will listen to transfer offers for almost all of Manchester United's squad this summer. Only young trio Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho are considered unsellable, as the Red Devils co-owner aims to bring in funds and kickstart a rebuild.

United are straddling over UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations and after it was confirmed that they won't be playing Champions League football next season, a radical transfer policy is set to be adopted. The Telegraph report that even the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are at risk of being sold.
