Liverpool Women once again find themselves tied on points for fourth place with Manchester United with two matches left. The next, penultimate game is against the Red Devils, which will likely decide the final standings.

The accomplished this by grabbing a wild 4-3 victory when current title holders Chelsea visited Prenton Park on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones struck first in the ninth minute, putting the Blues ahead into the first half. And if you look up, you’ll recall that the score ended up being 4-3 at the final whistle. That means that, yes, there were six goals scored within the last 45 minutes of the match.

Sophie Roman Haug wasted little time in the second half. In the 51st minute, Hobinger delivered the ball straight to Haug’s head. She soared over the defense and beat the goalkeeper to make Liverpool level.

It wasn’t long until Gemma Bonner scored her first of two goals - including the match winner. She got in a flick at the near post. It might have required some help from Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert, but I don’t think she’ll mind letting Bonner have the credit for her 150th Liverpool appearance.

Once they were trailing, Chelsea finally began to grow into the game and claw for those three points. It was Beever-Jones who once again came to the rescue in the 79th minute, evening the score.

It wasn’t a minute later when Cuthbert, who will not remember this day fondly, was beat by Holland, who played in recent substitute Leanne Kiernan for Liverpool’s third. So wow, cool, Liverpool are winning agai— oh, never mind. In the next minute, a shot gets pingponged around the front of the goal before Teagan Micah turned it into her own net, making it 3-3.

Are you following this? Well, don’t look away yet. It seemed that the game was settled in a draw, but Bonner looked that game in the eye and said, “Hell no.”

Kiernan did her part by winning the team a corner. Bonner got her head on the resulting delivery, and her goal at the 90+3’ minute mark was finally the one that let fans breathe. The victory could be the thing that dooms Chelsea in their title race against Manchester City.
