I am not leaving Manchester United until we are back on top - Sir Jim Ratcliffe has me convinced

Diogo Dalot has stressed he will not be leaving Manchester United until he believes the club are on their way back to competing for the biggest prizes on offer.

The Portuguese defender joined the club in 2018 and has won only one piece of silverware during that time: last season's Carabao Cup after defeating Newcastle United at Wembley.

It promises to be a summer of change at Old Trafford, highlighted by some of the ruthless changes being overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he attempts to bring back the glory days to United. Only four senior players have not been made available for transfer this summer: Andre Onana, Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund, raising the possibility of multiple exits.

Not hoping to be part of that group, however, Dalot is confident good times are on the horizon and wishes to be part of the success Ratcliffe's Ineos Group are aiming to instil.

"It's been a difficult campaign but I'm more hopeful than in the past, especially after the meeting with the new co-owners," explained the 25-year-old.

"They're here to help us, they have a good vision for the future and I feel like we can achieve good things. I want to be part of getting Man United back to the top. I couldn't leave this place without feeling that United are winning once again.

"Last season we had a taste with the League Cup - winning that was my high point so far at United. But that's not enough for a club like this. Even if you win four titles in one season, there's pressure to do the same again the next. It's been tough, especially for the supporters, but the players suffer with the fans as well. I'm genuinely hopeful we're going to be on the right track."

Another individual facing an uncertain future is manager Erik ten Hag, whose position could come under further scrutiny depending on United's end to the Premier League season and how they fare in the FA Cup final later this month.

Throwing his support behind the Dutchman, Dalot told FourFourTwo: "We clicked straight away. I've had plenty of managers during a short career - some you get on with immediately, others you must show that you deserve to play.

"Erik and I see football the same way. I can adapt to what he wants and take different roles in different positions, which helps him when players are not available. He has a player who knows what he wants and I have a manager who trusts and believes in me. I'm still improving."
