Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has defended Bruno Fernandes after claims of a spat with his team-mate.

The Denmark international was said to have fallen out with his captain as far back as November and claimed to coaching staff that Fernandes did not pass him the ball frequently enough. Hojlund had already endured a dispute with Diogo Dalot in which Fernandes had taken the side of the defender.

The conflict came during a period where Hojlund was short of goals for the Red Devils. The young striker has been more fruitful since however and notched 14 goals thus far in his debut season with United.

Against Sheffield United, Fernandes was the provider for Hojlund in a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford. In light of reports of their falling out, it would appear Hojlund could not help but cheekily reference his supposed complaint

"I just want to tell him: 'Thanks for the ball, Bruno!'," he told Football Focus..

"I was very happy for him because he’s also getting a lot of criticism. It’s not fair because he’s doing everything at a top level all the time and he’s an amazing captain."

Fernandes' future at the club has appeared uncertain in recent days, despite his influence. The former Sporting star has been United's chief contributor on his way to 15 goals and 11 assists this term.

It appears that Manchester United will be flexible in terms of listening to offers for their players this summer however, with reports suggesting only Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are deemed untouchable. Fernandes expects to remain at Old Trafford in the summer, but did not seem able to guarantee it.

"I’m not thinking about other things at the moment. Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it?" he told DAZN Portugal.

"A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides."

"So, if you want me to be very honest," he added, "If I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment."
