GdS: Lopetegui ‘dumbfounded’ by Milan protests – he is now waiting for Man Utd

By Oliver Fisher -

A move to AC Milan no longer looks likely for Julen Lopetegui and in the meantime a call from Manchester United has arrived, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lopetegui has been largely stationed in his family’s Basque home since he left Wolves before the start of the season, while waiting for developments and his next opportunity.

Negotiations started quietly with Milan and accelerated until the offer of a three-year contract worth €4m net per season. However, this was quickly followed by quite strong fan protests and thus the management pulled back on things.

From Asteasu where his home is Lopetegui has been observing, reading and listening, while he struggles to understand what’s happening. The protest from the Rossoneri fans surprised him, its manner and form struck him.

Initially Julen was convinced that everything would be fine but now obviously the feeling is different, and the Spanish coach calmly awaits official communications from Milan regarding what they want to do.

“The personal attacks leave him dumbfounded, he had never experienced something like this,” the paper adds. Now he awaits news from Manchester United, who are undecided on Erik Ten Hag and have put Lopetegui in their sights.

  1. I don’t blame him. If fans start crying and management doesn’t step up to defend you… well, you can imagine how hard his job will be when he gets the to be AC Milan coach, difficulties happen then fans start crying and management hides behind the desk and lets Lopetegui to fend for himself

All coaches get crap from fans that have no idea what happens in the locker room… this happened with Spalleti and Inzaghi when we won the Serie A, and with Inzaghi again the next year when he lost 12 games in Serie A.

  2. So Milan management suppose to defend a coach they don’t employ, a coach that none of them have ever spoken publicly about, because the media put his name out and the fans started a campaign against him?
The fans were against Pioli this whole last year and management always showed the support for Pioli.

  3. If ten hag will be available he needs to go on the list. On top of if I’d say. Everything he did at ajax is exactly what Milan, supposedly, wants to do.

  4. My opinion, I don’t think this guy would’ve been the worst.
I think he would’ve had interesting ideas for our squad.
With who we’re being linked to, he doesn’t seem like the worst.
Just get Pellegrini! And we move on.
I am nervous about this management, I’m not gonna lie.
    Furlani, Moncada, Ibra…
I’m hoping they somehow pull a bunny out the hat but as it stands, I’m quite nervous.
I cannot go through another Derby violation.
    Forza Milan
