One player can now be crossed off Manchester United’s list of potential summer transfer targets.

Sometimes in football you have to grab an opportunity while you can. Roony Bardghji thought his big moment was coming this summer.

Back in November he struck a memorable winner for Copenhagen against Manchester United, taking advantage of slack defending to seal a 4-3 comeback win for his team.

It was a result which went a long way to eliminating United from the Champions League, with the Danes reaching the last 15.

Roony Bardghji injury blow

The goal sent Bardghji’s reputation soaring, with links to Premier League clubs including Manchester United following.

The Sun reported earlier this year that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Bardghji in action.

HITC had reported in January that Copenhagen were fielding interest from multiple clubs including United, and it was looking inevitable he would land a big move this summer, until now.

Swedish wonderkid Bardghji, 18, has now suffered an ACL injury, Fabrizio Romano reports.

Even in a best case scenario, Bardghji, who has scored 11 goals this season, is very unlikely to play again in 2024.

It is a double blow for Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with The Sun reporting Bardghji was being lined up for a possible move to French side Nice too.

Wants to be best player in the world

Roony Bardghji has lofty ambitions, which are temporarily now on hold.

Earlier this year he told The Athletic: “I wish to become the best player in the world.

“Of course, playing in the biggest leagues, playing for one of the biggest teams… but being the best player in the world. That’s my biggest goal.

“That’s what I’m working towards every day, reaching my goal in five years… If you’re dreaming, dream big.”

Manchester United, and Nice, will no doubt monitor his recovery. An ACL tear is a serious injury and the timing of this is a serious blow for the promising teenager.
