Arsenal F.C. vs A.F.C. Bournemouth predictions

The three-way Premier League title tussle is no more.

A run of one win in five matches has knocked Liverpool out of the race, leaving Arsenal and Manchester City as the two remaining contenders. One of Mikel Arteta or his former boss Pep Guardiola will have his hands on the trophy later this month.

The advantage lies with City. The defending champions, who are seeking a record fourth consecutive title, will finish top if they win each of their four remaining matches.

Arsenal hold a one-point advantage as things stand, but they only have three fixtures left to fulfil. As such, they will be praying for help from City’s upcoming opponents, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Not that Arteta’s team can afford to take their eye off the ball. It is true that just one slip-up from City would suddenly put Arsenal in control of their fate. But the Gunners must not assume that they will automatically take nine points from nine against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton.

Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham last time out demonstrated the character and resolve that should allow them to at least push City all the way.

After storming into a 3-0 lead, the Gunners were made to sweat late on as Spurs pulled two goals back.

In the end Arteta’s men held on. It was by no means their best performance of the campaign to date, but it will have delighted the manager and his coaching staff.

Arsenal proved unable to deal with the pressure of the title race this time 12 months ago, but the recent evidence shows that they have learned from that negative experience.

With City not in action until 5.30pm, Arsenal have the chance to pull four points clear of their fellow contenders with a win in the early game. It is an opportunity they cannot afford to pass up.

Arsenal vs Bournemouth betting tips

Arsenal should prove too strong for Bournemouth, but the visitors are capable of causing their hosts a few problems.

Arsenal to win to nil - 6/5 (Sky Bet)

Bournemouth are enjoying a fantastic season of their own. It took a while for Andoni Iraola to get his methods across following his appointment last summer, as the Cherries had to wait until their 10th game for a first victory.

Since then, however, Bournemouth have been magnificent. Only the current top four have collected more points since the beginning of November. Currently 10th in the table, Iraola’s side could still qualify for Europe (although it is something of a long shot).

So while Arsenal should not underestimate the latest visitors to the Emirates Stadium, we still fancy their chances of subduing Bournemouth.

The Gunners have kept a division-high 16 clean sheets this term. They have conceded the fewest goals and have the lowest expected goals against figure in the Premier League.

It is worth noting that Bournemouth have scored in each of their last nine top-flight outings, but they have not faced a defence as strong as Arsenal’s in that time.

Arsenal to score in both halves - 8/13 (Sky Bet)

Points won is a more important statistic than either goals scored and goals conceded, but Arsenal lead the way in both of those latter categories.

No one has put the ball in the back of the net more often than Arsenal, who have done it 85 times compared to Manchester City’s 82 and Liverpool’s 77.

Arsenal are also out in front - albeit alongside City and Aston Villa this time - when it comes to scoring in both halves. They have done that 16 times so far, or in 47 percent of their games.

We may well see that percentage rise slightly after the weekend. Arsenal are playing with great confidence and their attack is purring.

As well as providing a threat from open play, the Gunners are scoring plenty from dead-ball situations. No team in the league can match their record of 20 set-piece goals in 2023/24.

Bournemouth, for their part, concede an average of two goals per away game. Arsenal should get plenty of chances in this one.

Martin Odegaard to score any time - 15/8 (Sky Bet)

The battle to be crowned Arsenal’s Player of the Year has numerous contenders, from William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhees to Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

It is a slightly different question, but the most important member of Arteta’s team is probably Martin Odegaard.

The Norway international makes Arsenal tick. He oozes creativity and sets the rhythm of their attacking play. Odegaard has been a magnificent signing for the north Londoners.

With eight league goals to his name up to now, the former Real Madrid man will be keen to get into double figures before the end of the campaign.

At the price listed above, this one is well worth a punt.
