Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has emerged as a managerial target for Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag's position at Old Trafford is in doubt after a disappointing campaign where United have failed to qualify for the Champions League and the club's new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has refused to give the Dutchman his public backing.

Bayern, meanwhile, are searching for a new manager after it was announced in February that Thomas Tuchel would be leaving at the end of the season. His departure comes after Bayern failed to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years, with Xabi Alonso masterminding a first ever triumph for Bayer Leverkusen.

And according to Bild, Ten Hag is on a four-man shortlist of managers Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl is considering to replace Tuchel should United decide to part ways with the former Ajax boss.

Benfica's Roger Schmidt, former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi are also on the shortlist. However, De Zerbi has now insisted he wants to remain at Brighton, telling Sky Sports : "We're going to speak with Tony [Bloom, Brighton's owner].

"I think I would like to stay in Brighton because I love my players. I love this city. I love my club, my fans. I said in the meeting with the fans, if I'm happy, there isn't any club can bring myself to change a team but I want to keep my passion always."

Bayern have been forced to turn their attention to other targets after Ralf Rangnick rejected them in order to focus on his job with Austria ahead of Euro 2024. In a statement, Rangnick vowed Austria will "do everything we can to get as far as possible".

"I'm the Austrian team coach with all my heart," the former Manchester United manager said. "I really enjoy this task and am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path.

"I would like to expressly emphasise that this is not a rejection of Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the Euros. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible."
