Speculation continues to surround Manchester United over the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

Ineos are looking to transform results and performances at the club after a decade of underperformance. And United's poor campaign, rightly or wrongly, has put the spotlight firmly on Ten Hag, with the club missing out on a lucrative place in next season's Champions League.

Injuries have played a major role in United's decline this season, and the FA Cup final remains a chance for the club to end a miserable campaign on a high. However, expectations are always high at Old Trafford, and a manager will often pay the price for a disappointing season. Below is a look at the latest reports surrounding the managers linked with United...

Thomas Tuchel

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is on a list of managers under consideration at United if Erik ten Hag leaves, according to the Times. It is said that although concerns have been expressed over Tuchel's apparent clashes with his previous employers, it is hoped that the new structure at United will alleviate any tensions with Ineos controlling football operations.

Verdict: With Tuchel leaving Bayern this summer, he may be the best available option for United. There are concerns about him enjoying very little success since helping Chelsea win the 2021 Champions League. However, his experience managing big clubs ticks a lot of boxes for Ineos if Ten Hag departs this summer.

Ruben Amorim

The Guardian reports that West Ham United are set to appoint former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, and David Moyes will leave the club as a result. They report that despite interest in Man United-linked Ruben Amorim, there are doubts over whether they will pay his €15m (£12.8m) release clause.

Verdict: Amorim's teams tend to play with a back-three, so his appointment would signal a major shift in how United will play. The Portuguese is likely to need heavy backing in the transfer market to buy the players needed to play in his system. Ineos, though, are more likely to hire a manager who fits a set style of play that they want to see across all age groups at the club, and there are doubts over whether Amorim will fit that style.

Roberto de Zerbi

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi has insisted that he wants to stay with the Seagulls amid reports linking him with a summer exit. The Italian was linked with United earlier this year, but reports have cooled amid Brighton's dip in form.

"I would like to stay in Brighton because I love my players, I love this city, I love my club and my fans," he told Sky Sports. "I said in the meeting with the fans, if I am happy there isn't a club that can bring myself to change team.

"I need to find the balance between my heart and my head. And there is a part of myself who pushes with the heart, and the other is more calm to analyse the situation."

Verdict: De Zerbi's Brighton play good football, but their dramatic dip in form has been alarming, even if there are mitigating factors such as injuries and their involvement in Europe. United should stay clear of the Italian, who has rarely spent more than two seasons at one club.
